We live in a world where only superstars are given the microphone or the pen/paper to indoctrinate us. This includes celebrities in the realm of Hollywood, as well as in the realms of journalism, academia, and religion. This leaves the curious, intelligent, and creative people who are not "powerful" very little room to influence or create change within society.
MOVE stands for “Movement for Outreach, Volunteerism, Education” and was started in coffee shops and cafes on the basis of creating an avenue for people to express their creativity. MOVE sought to put together programs that tackle subjects ranging from science, literature, and pressing social issues such as domestic violence and mental health. Our primary goal is to bring together people yearning to learn and volunteer, and also who yearn to teach about various subjects, to set the building blocks for future services.
In MOVE’s current and initial phase, we want to concentrate on awareness campaigns and education. We have four branches of MOVE, and they include ICE Talks, Seasons of Life, The Ropes, and Cingulate Gyrus. These form our base, and are subject to change if it is decided that one or more branches are ineffective.
ICE Talks is the innovative branch of move. It stands for “Inspire, Create, Educate”, and these are loosely modeled after TED Talks. ICE Talks invites every day, normal people, who may have a hobby, interest, or a thought that they’d like to talk about for 15 to 20 minutes. They must present something meaningful to them, and with a personal passion, and we’ve already had some great topics and talks.
“Seasons of Life”, or SOL as it is now known, is a constantly changing branch of MOVE. SOL concentrates on the stages of life that we go through, from birth to death. This is a very introspective part of MOVE, and the goals of SOL are accomplished through educational seminars and forums.
The Ropes is MOVE’s awareness branch, and hosts themed events that deal with pressing social issues such as domestic violence, bullying, substance abuse, and much more. It will also slowly change to accommodate community service, such as putting together soup kitchens and other charitable causes.
Cingulate Gyrus is our written word. Cingulate Gyrus seeks to become a literary journal, tapping into talents far and wide, who will submit fiction and non-fiction, focusing on creativity. Cingulate will house short stories, informative essays, poetry, and updates about MOVE. We will release a Cingulate Gyrus issue every 4 months.
As we become more established and settled, MOVE will move on to provide services such as tutoring for disadvantaged youth, and health care ranging from medical to mental health. MOVE has a team that is creative, energetic, and very keen on reaching out and working with those who wish to work honestly, openly, and in a goal oriented manner. We hope you will check us out!
